The Legacy Shop features T-shirts and gallery quality poster art of award-winning Jazz talent. January (2020) to December (2020) marks the first edition, and opportunity to offer artwork of past performances by the late Jerry Gonzalez, a childhood family friend of Willie Bruno II. For several years, Mr. Bruno assisted Mr. Gonzalez with free artwork to promote and distinguish his marketing materials, from bland representations of Jazz. Mr. Gonzalez's extraordinary musicianship and contributions to Jazz worldwide influenced many of the poster art created for him. He was a legend, and the artwork reflects his bigger than life presence and indomitable abilities.
The Legacy Shop is an instrument of the hope resulting from Jazz as a cultural achievement, in times of uncertainty, dehumanization, and adversity and as a collective statement about the genre's individual talents and their translation of dignity.
This edition of the Legacy Shop marks phase 1 of Counter-Adversity™ an Initiative™ for youth exiting foster care.
Counter-Adversity was developed to offer individual aid to youth who are at risk for homelessness after exiting a foster care or group home program in the Bronx or after being pushed out of their homes due to maltreatment.
The Counter-Adversity project was created to disrupt the pipeline from foster care and homelessness to New York State prisons.
